STUDENTS STRENGTH: 

Till date many students have completed higher studies and engaged in different jobs. 
Many of the students have made it to higher institutions like IITs, NITs, Tezpur Unversity and Gauhati University. 
At present number of strength in the department as follows:

EQUIPMENTS AND FACILITIES:  

The department consists of a staff room, four laboratories and two class rooms. 
Apart from these laboratories, we have a dark room, an electronics Lab and a computer laboratory well equipped with 5 computer sets, a projector and a store room. 
The department has also a digital class room.


LEARNING RESOURCES OF THE DEPARTMENT: 

There is a library in the department with 370 numbers of books. 
Apart from the books, we have a facilities soft copies of useful books store in departmental Desktop and previous year question papers which are very much beneficial for the students. 
There is a printer-cum-photocopier in the staff room.


PUBLICATIONS OF THE DEPARTMENT: 

Wall Magazine:  “SPECTRUM” 
Half-Yearly students’ magazine:  “HORIZON”


EVALUATION OF THE PROGRESS OF THE STUDENTS: 

Sessional Test: One sessional test is conducted for each class per semester and records are maintained. 
Class Test: Class tests are conducted by the teachers individually. 
Internal Assessment:  For internal assessment in practical examination, a mock practical exam is organized.


GROUP DISCUSSION & SEMINAR:  

Group Discussion is held on topics like astronomy, electronics, Quantum Physics among the students of 5th semester. 
The students of 3rd & 5th semesters give seminars on their curriculum based topics or on famous physicists using power point presentations.


SWOC ANALYSIS OF THE DEPARTMENT:  

STRENGTH: 
1. Method of interaction with the students. 
2. Co-operative faculty ,members 
3. Field study and 
4. Mentoring to each student.


OPPORTUNITY: 

1. With the proper learning of the subject, students can go for design Engineer, IT Consultant, etc. 
2. Deeper knowledge of the subject would be much beneficial in field of research.


WEAKNESS:  
2. Lack of laboratory assistant. 3. The laboratories are comparatively smaller in size.

CHALLENGES:   

1. Due to its tough nature and mathematical analysis, fewer students opt for the subject. 
2. As the majority of students come from vernacular medium, the first two semester’s marks get affected due to the switching of the medium.


BEST PRACTICES OF THE DEPARTMENT:  

The department of physics organizes the following on Saturday apart from the regular curriculum: 
1. The department of physics organizes a popular talk on behalf of National Science Day in every year. 
2. Extempore speech on scientific topic among the B. Sc. New comers. 
3. Cultural programs like singing, dancing, and one act-act drama. 
4. The department initiates physics related project presentation among the students of 5th semester.


OTHER PRACTICES:  

The department fully cooperates with students for the occasion of freshmen social to the new comers every year. 
Every faculty member of the department of elaborates the scopes and importance of studying physics among the students at least once in month. 
Parents meet organizes by the department time to time for their valuable suggestions. 
Movie screening is also done in the informal session of the department. 
Cleaning drive is organized by departmental students in each Saturday.


Alumni Activities: 

The department of physics has an alumni association. All members cooperate in the institutional as well as departmental activities whenever it is necessary. The department has a interest to meet the members of the association in various cultural program in the institution and for the good suggestions to the new comers of the department.


MISSION:  

To work for the growth of the science culture in the society by creating a scientific awareness among the people and by working to meet the scientific requirements of the same. In addition, our mission is to prepare graduate with degree of efficiency, as well as a good human being.


VISION:  

Building up an environment in the department by encouraging the development of educational physics by participating in the development of curriculum, developing methodology physics education and lifelong learning programs.
