         6. Training in Japan on Participatory Community Development:

Training in Japan on Participatory Community Development included training on :
                  
                   The training programme was under the technical cooperation programme of Government of Japan .It was held at Osaka International Center (OSIC), Osaka, Japan from 5thNovember 2007 to 22 December 2007. This seven week long compact programme included theoretical study as well as field study on different topics related to community development. The subjects included in the Modules are:

a. Garbage Management :Role of administrator and participation of the community:

               The study included  theory and practical study at Minamata , kumamoto Prefacture of Japan.  Minamata became world famous for Minamata disease, caused by Mercury contaminated water pollution. At present, it is one of the best eco-friendly and clean cities of the world. The study was on the process of garbage management, role of educational institution, women and community people in the process.

b. Town Development and Public works through joint participation of locals and administration

                 A study in the Koura-cho of Shiga prefecture of Japan: It included the field visit to study the process of community participation in developmental works (water management, sanitation and beautification of the area, management of community halls and public places such as parks ,road etc. ),interaction with town administration ,local residents and community leaders involved in different developmental projects such as 'Project "Fireflies"-clean stream water empowerment based on respect for human rights and resident initiatives', 'irrigation facility project', 'Water environmental Improvement Project' , 'Cleanliness and Beautification Project- Koura-Cho' and Community Development Promotion Project'.

c. Facilitating local initiative through." Jimotogaku Method"

                      A method of studying the community and resources with the help of full involvement of the community.

d. Study and visit to the "Rural community Museum"- Kagomeisi prefecture
                                   
Visit to the living museums of Japan to study how the power of communities and their potentiality could rediscover and involved community in development process.

e. Training on Community Participation in Disaster Management

                              The training was held at Kobe Disaster Reduction and Renovation
Institution. Kobe, Japan.Besides, study and workshop on conflict resolution and gender issues in community studies also included in the module of the training programme.
