The National Service Scheme was launched in 1969, the birthday centenary of the father of nation Mahatma Gandhi, by government of India. The objective of NSS is to create social awareness among students and the all round development of their personality. It is a voluntary association of young people, especially college students to work for campus-community linkages. The aim is to develop student’s personality through community service.
The NSS unit of Morigaon College provides a platform to the students for community work and developing a sense of involvement in the tasks of nation building. It conducts regular and social camps, awareness classes, demonstrations, personality development programs etc for the volunteers. NSS volunteers work to ensure that a needy get help to enhance their standard of living. A variety of activities are organised every year to channelize the energy and idealism of the younger generation into creative pursuits. They educate students and society regarding many issues like health, sanitation, palliation, etc. Various health campus and slum areas nearby are taken out regularly to create awareness and also to motivate people to work towards clean environment.

Activities from December, 2018 to
February, 2022
1. Educational Tour Programme.
Date - 21 December, 2018
NSS organised educational tour programme for
primary level students. Students from Bhairaguri L P School to Morigaon College
and visited different departments of Morigaon College. The aim of this
programme was to create awareness and also to encourage these students for
higher education.
2. National
Youth Parliament Festival
Date – 19 January, 2019.
As instructed by the central government of India,
Morigaon College also organised a one day national youth parliament festival at
AKG hall. Many students took part actively in the programme . Speech competition
was held among the student and they participated with encourage. The best
competitors were also awarded here for their performance.
3. Orientation Programme of Adopted village.
Date – 18 February, 2019
4. 150th Gandhi Jayanti Cleanliness Programme at College
campus.
Date–2 October, 2019
5. Workshop on challenges and opportunities in NSS in
Assam.
Date – 23rd and 24 th October, 2019
In the workshop Dr. Hemanta Kumar Nath, Programme
Officer of Morigaon College attended as a representative. The programme was
held by Regional Directorate of NSS, Guwahati under Ministry of Youth Affairs and
Sports of Government of India at Don Bosco Institute.
6. Distribution of food items by NSS Unit
Date – 20 April, 2020
The programme was executed by NSS unit during
Pandemics for fifty families at adopted village Bhairaguri.
7. Awareness Programme on Covid-19 Vaccination.
Date – 13th to 20th May, 2020
An awareness programme was held by NSS unit during
pandemic situation. The volunteers distributed mask among the people. Volunteers
also provide leaflet among public people to create awareness.
8. Covid-19 Vaccination Camp on Adopted village.
Date – 23 June, 2021
Vaccination Camp was held in Oujaribori, an adopted
village by Morigaon College. The programme was supported by district
administration.
9. Plantation Programme
Date – 1 to 7 July, 2021
A Plantation Programme was executed by NSS
volunteers on 72th forest day in college road. During the Programme many tree
plants were distributed.
10. Fit India Freedom Run 2.0
Date – 13 to 14 August, 2021
This programme was celebrated as a part of 75 years of
India’s Independence, Azadi Ka Amrit Mahotsav. In this Programme NSS volunteers
took part in a physical running practice around the town.
11. Clean India Programme.
Date – 25 October, 2021
Basically this programme was organised by Nehru Yuva
Kendra , Morigaon. It was a part of Clean
India Programme on the occasion of Azadi Ka Amrit Mahotsav. NSS volunteers were
actively in cleaning the municipality area. All the task were performed nearby Maya Bazar.
12. Unity Run
Date – 31 October, 2021
Celebrating the National Unity Day on 31 October,
2021, National Unity Day to mark the birth anniversary of Sardar Vallabhbhai
Patel NSS unit of Morigaon College was a successful task. Students and teachers
took part in physical run around Morigaon town.

Inauguration of Science Block by Chief Minister of Assam
Date – 10
December, 2021
NSS volunteers welcomed the Chief Minister of Assam on
his arrival to Morigaon College in occasion of Inaugurating the Science Block.
14. Cleanliness Programme.
Date – 5 January, 2022
A Cleanliness programme was held by the NSS Unit on
the beginning of the year. It was performed in college campus including
playground. Almost 80 no of Volunteers were attended in the programme.
15. Attending National Voters Day
Date – 25 January, 2022
Bornali Bordoloi and Jafar Alam , two volunteer of NSS
unit representing Morigaon College attended in a programme on National Voters
Day celebrated at Morigaon district library. They were encouraged to take
initiative regarding voting of citizens from various perspectives.
16. Special Camp on National Youth Day
Date - 12 January , 2022
A Special camp was organised by NSS unit Morigaon
college on Swami Vivekananda’s birthday at AKG hall. Here moto, objectives,
mission of the NSS unit was discussed for newly joining volunteers by NSS
programme officer Dr. Hemanta Kumar Nath. Quiz competition, Poster Making
Competition and Art Competition were held among the students.
17. Survey in Adopted village under Unnat Bharat
ABhiyan
7th April , 2022
The Volunteers of NSS unit took part in the Survey at
Solmari Mikir Gaon of Morigaon district. It is an adopted village under Unnat
Bharat Abhiyan of Morigaon College. They collected socio-economic data about
the villages and identified different problems regarding it.
18. Cleanliness Programme at Morigaon College campus.
21 May,2022
The programme was organised by Alumni Association of
Morigaon College in Collaboration with NSS unit of Morigaon College. The
volunteers performed the activity inside the college campus and college field.
19. World Environment Day, Plantation
5th
June, 2022
World Environment Day was organised by NSS unit
executing plantation programme. NSS team distributed plantlet among school
students of Morigaon district.
20. Post Celebration Day of Morigaon Zila Divas
16th October,2022
This programme was held by Anti-Global Warming Society
of Morigaon in Collaboration with NSS and NCC unit of Morigaon College. Volunteers
performed cleanliness activity at Gandhi Maydan and District Sports Association
field.
21. Rastriya Ekata Diwas, Unity Run
31th October , 2022

23.Celebrating 400th Birthday Anniversary of Bir Lachit Barphukon
20th November
NSS unit, Morigaon College celebrated 400th Birthday Anniversary of Bir Lachit Barphukon
at open space of Bagharapathar, Morigaon. A talk on Bir Lachit Barphukon was
given Mr. Augustin Terang,Assistant Professor, Department of education,
Morigaon College on this occasion. Unit also performed a Cleanliness
programme.
24 . Attending District Level Workshop
An workshop was organised by Morigaon district
administration on Joint Action Plan on Drugs and Substance abuse among Children
and illicit trafficking organised by Women and Child Development , Govt of
Assam. NSS volunteers participated in rally and workshop regarding the
programme in 5th December, 2022 and 9th December respectively.
25. Attending National Youth Parliament Festival
(District Level)
Four volunteers of NSS unit participated in Youth
Parliament Festival through virtual mode held in 31 January, 2023. It was
conducted by Nehru Yuva Kendra under Ministry of youth affairs & sports.
