Session- 2021-22

Best Practice 1

Title of the Practice: Skill of Cutting & Tailoring for Women of Adopted Villages

Objectives: (i) To enhance the skill and employability of women in adopted villages.

(ii) To introduce new tools and techniques prevailing in today’s tailoring market.

(iii) To empower socio-economically the women from the adopted villages.

The Context:

After conducting a thorough survey in the adopted villages, it was found that women from twelve households are severely under privileged both socially and economically. They do not have alternative income earners in their family as well as do not have adequate educational qualification. So, they urgently need training.

The Practice:

This program is mainly designed to enhance skill of women from the adopted villages for employability. As part of Skill Development Programme of the College, this cutting and tailoring training program covers five adopted villages, of which 11 women participated in the first batch. The program started from 21st September, 2021 and is still continuing with new batches. The six month training session is carried out between 10 AM to 1 PM on regular basis. Mr. Naidul Islam was appointed as instructor.

Evidence:

a.       The learners are familiar with latest tailoring machines and attractive cloth designing techniques prevailing in the market.

b.      They now are skilled and became well versed in tailoring in various modern style of dresses and apparels.

c.       The trainees are now engaged at local tailoring shops. Some of them opened themselves new stalls.

d.      The women from adopted villages are now financially become independent and could support their children in education.

Problems encountered and Resources Required:

(i)                 Unwillingness of the Women for participation

(ii)               Transportation problem for the trainees

(iii)              Time schedule of the training

(iv)              The number of machines are less than the number of trainees

Evidence of Success:

(i)                 Positive feedback in classroom interaction

(ii)               Improved Class Test Results

(iii)             Result of final examination is improving

(iv)             The class teachers are motivated and updated

Problems Encountered & Resources Required:

1.      Initially teachers of the schools hesitated to carry the practice.

2.      The problem relating to schedule and time management as there was fixed routine of the schools which provide little scope for new slots of conducting interdisciplinary classes.
