UNNAT BHARAT ABHIYAN

Intriduction:


              Unnat Bharat Abhiyan (UBA) is a flagship programme of MHRD, Govt of India. The Program was initiated by a group of dedicated faculty members of IIT, Delhi working consistently in the field of rural development as well as technology and was officially launched by the  Ministry of Human Resource Development (MHRD).UBA aims at engaging the faculty members and students of higher educational institutions (HEI) in the goal of improving the social and economic well being of the rural communities. The knowledge base and the resources  of the premier institutions of the country are to be leveraged to bring in transformational change the rural development process. It is also aims to  create a vibrant relationship between the society and the HEI, with the latter providing the required knowledge and technology support to improve the lives of rural people and to enhance the capabilities of both the public and private organizations in the society.

              The Mission of Unnat Bharat Abhiyan is to enable participating higher educational institutions to work with the people of rural India in identifying development challenges and evolving appropriate solutions for accelerating sustainable growth. It also aims to create a virtuous

cycle between society and an inclusive academic system by providing knowledge and practices for emerging professions and to upgrade the capabilities of both the public and the private sectors in responding to the development needs of rural India. Under the UBA program all

Participating Institutes are adopting a cluster of five villages in consultation with Districts Commissioner. A letter in this regards has already been circulated to Districts Commissioner by MHRD. Morigaon College is also adopting a cluster of villages namely

    (2) Oujaribori

    (3) Bhairaguri

    (4) Borigaon and

    (5) Mayanguri in Morigaon District.

        Different proposal has been taken for action in adopted village according to the agenda of UBA Committee meeting.


1.1 Unnat Bharat Abhiyan Cell, Morigaon College:
        Unnat Bharat Abhiyan is inspired by the vision of transformational change in rural development Processes by leveraging knowledge institutions to help in building the architecture of an Inclusive India.
   Conceptualized by a group of dedicated faculty members of Centre for Rural Development and Technology, IIT Delhi, Unnat Bharat Abhiyan (UBA) is a flagship program of Ministry of Human Resource Development (MHRD), Govt. of India.UBA aims to bring a transformational change in rural Development by active participation of higher academic institutions with local communities, and
reorientation of curricula and R&D design of knowledge Institutions. Morigaon College has been Designated to function for leading and coordinating organization of UBA activities in the country. The Mission of Unnat Bharat Abhiyan is to enable participating higher educational institutions to work with the people of rural India in identifying developmental challenges and evolving appropriate solutions
for accelerating sustainable growth. It also aims to create a virtuous cycle between  society and an inclusive academic system by providing knowledge and practices for emerging professions and to upgrade the capabilities of both the public and the private sectors in responding to the developmental needs of rural India. Under the UBA program all Participating Institutes are needed to adopt a cluster of five villages in consultation with Districts Collectors. A letter in this regards has already been circulated to Districts Collectors by MHRD. Morigaon College has also adopted a cluster of villages namely:

(2) Oujaribori
(3) Bhairaguri
(4) Borigaon and
(5) Mayanguri in Morigaon District.


1.2 Household Survey by Unnat Bharat Abhiyan Cell, Morigaon College
       The Students from four departments and the NSS unit were engaged in the  household surveys to Collect relevant data and also did visual surveys based on the infrastructure of the village.
Villagers were very happy once they were aware about Unnat Bharat Abhiyan through hamlet meeting and social mobilization. From Morigaon College 150 students of NSS Unit, Department of Education, Political Science, Geography and Anthropology went to five adopted village and conducted house hold survey in the first week of April, 2022. In the household survey , form basic information about a family like family-size, age, education of the members, health, livelihood, agricultural produce and many other issues which are related to their day to day life, problems faced by the villagers in their village and no of Govt. schemes available in the village and feedback on problems faced were collected. This becomes the basic evidence as well as the information to prepare village development plan according to the needs and requirement at the village level.
Chapter 2:
Village Name: Solmari Mikir Gaon
2.1 Introduction:
      In order to achieve the goals and vision of Unnat Bharat Abhiyan it is needed to prepare a Village Development Plan (VDP) so that the objectives of UBA could be implemented in Solmari Mikir Gaon and come out in a systematic way and in tune with UBA mission mode.
2.2 Physical Infrastructure:
2.2.1 Transport:
      There is a main access road to the village from Nagaon-Morigaon Road. Within
the village few roads are kutcha and do not have proper coverage.
2.2.1.1 How to reach village
    Solmari Mikir Gaon is one of the revenue village of Morigaon district of Assam. It is located at just 22.9 K.M. away from Chaparmukh Railway station and 6.9 KM  away from office of the Deputy Commissioner, 81 KM from State capital Dispurand less than 5 km away from National Highway.
2.2.2 Water Supply:
    In the village 100% household have hand pump. The Panchayat provides piped water to the villagers which cover 91.07% of households which is not sufficient due to the irregular supply of water.
2.2.3 Electricity:
     The village is provided with proper electricity provided by APDCL. But 5 numbers
of households do not have electricity supply.
2.2.4 Drainage:
      Village is lacking proper drainage facility.Only 10.28% household have toilet constructed under Swachh Bharat Mission. 76 numbers of families in the village have received LPG Gas under Ujjawal Yojna.
2.3 Social Infrastructure:
The total population of the village is 1400 from which percentage of femalepopulation is 48.21% and male population is 51.76. The category of peoples can be
shown according to their age as follows –


Aadhar card and Bank account holders peoples are 97% and 91.1 % respectively. Their occupational data can be classified as follows
2.3.1 Education and Healthcare:
There are two primary schools and one high school. The total number of ST(P) and OBC population are 948 and 452 respectively. Among the people of the village 1116 numbers are literate and 284 numbers are illiterate.
There is also one sub healthcare centre in the village that provides basic health care. Generally people come to Morigaon Civil hospital in case of major health problem.
2.3.2 Religious and Community:
    Two Namghar are available in the village. There is also one community hall which belongs to the Tiwa Community for cultural perspective.
2.4 Major Problems:
Based on the House hold survey and hamlet meeting the following problems were identified as priority issue faced by the villagers:
a) Most of the roads running through the village are Kacha
b) Lack of irrigation system
c) Villagers drink water from tube wells without boiling or purifying. Scarcity of
pure drinking water has been observed.
d) The village roads are not provided with street lights in the village.
e) Government schemes like Kissan credit card, PM Jiban Jyoti Yojana are not
introduced among maximum people.
2.5 Proposals:
a) Necessity to create awareness of the various government schemes available so
that people can take up the opportunities.
b) To execute educational and extension activities among the villagers
c) To organize skill based training collaborating with government to tackle
problem of unemployment among the youth.

Chapter 3: Bhairaguri Village

 

    

Introduction

Bhairaguri falls under Knowar Gaon Gram Panchayat of Morigaon district. The total population of the village is 526of which nos. of male and female are 250 and 276 respectively. People of the village have a literary rate of 78.32%, of which about 15.9 % people havecomputer using skills.The majority of people work as skilled labours followed by people who own their own land and practice agriculture.Only 12 people were found to be working in government sector offices.

   Transport:

 

There is only one 3.5 meter wide access road to the village which pass through the middle of the village. Around 60% of roads are concrete roads. Few roads are kutcha roads and few houses do not have proper access. There is no bus stop connection to the village and autorickshaws as well as e-rickshaws are the major means of transport to and from the village connecting to the main Morigaon town which is 4.8 km away.

 

  Water Supply:

 

There is no piped water supply system in the village. Every house hold has their personal water supply source majority being handpumps (106 nos.) and few having personal drilled motor and pipeline facilities.

 

  Housing:

In the entire village 44.3%of the houses are kaccha and only 26% houses are completely pucca. 11 nos. of houses have been built under PM Awas Yojana. 99% of people have electricity facility in their houses although the services are quite irregular as found in survey. About 80% people have private toilets and the rest use 

 community based toilet systems. A total of 43 toilets have been established under governments schemes in the village

  Drainage:

 

Village is lacking proper drainage facility. Majority of houses have drains which are open causing bad odour and mosquito breeding. Due to improper sanitation villagers are having health issues.

 

   Waste Disposal System:

The village is lacking proper waste disposal system. The village has 3 common points for waste disposal although upon disposal proper care of the wastes is not taken. Thus people prefer to dispose the waste in their backyard and about 25 families have been found making personal compost pit.

Street Lights:

The street lights are available along the main access road. A total of 5 no. of street lights were recorded. The other roads are not provided with street lights in the village.

There are 272school going children and 72 college going students. 102 children are not going to any institute as either being under age or either has completed or left college to work due to financial issues.

Govt.Office:

One Primary school is present in the village. One Anganwadi center is present in the village that provides teachings to 48 children as well as basic health care in the village.

Major Problems:

(a) The village has flooding issues during the monsoon months since the level of the land is low and surrounded by numerous lakes and ponds. During

rain, water from these bodies flood the fields of the village damaging crops.

(b) While, the village has electricity connections, regular and long term power cut issue is present.

(c) Village does not have any hospitals nearby and the people need to travel to main Morigaon town which is about 4.8 km away.

(d) Transportation to and from the village is problematic. Only small vehicles such as auto and vans run through the village as passenger vehicles.

(e) Villagers are left out of latest government schemes since proper channel of information flow is lacking.


Proposals:

There are some recommendations provided in the Village development plan for tackling the issues under the project UBA. Proper workingelectricity facility under PM Ujjwal Yojana have been highly pointed out by the people. Roads in the village needs upgradation under PMGSY. More toilets under Swatch Bharat Mission has been also asked as some families have been facing severe problems.

Chapter 4

Village Name: Moyangur

     Introduction

Moyanguri village falls under the Bhurbandha gram panchayat, Bhurbandha block of Morigaon district, Assam. The total population of the village is 1087 from which 559 are male and 528 are female. Category wise, total number of SC population is 233 and total number of ST population is 22. 204 houses are katcha while 39 are semi-pacca and 40 houses are pacca. Under PM AwasYojana the total number of benefited households is 18.The poverty status of the population is that, while 156 housholds have APL card, the total number of BPL card holder is 38 and not having any APL or BPL card holder is 21.The total number of Adhar card holder is 830 and 257 is without Aadhar card.

People having bank account is 495 and 592 people are without any bank accounts.

In terms of occupation, the total number of salaried government employee is

40 and total salaried employee in private sector is 76. The total number of households having their own farming land is 120. There is a total of 28 skilled wage workers and 63 unskilled wage workers. Sharecropping/farming leased land is 9. The total number of households engaged in animal husbandry is 9 and poultry is 5. There is no single household engaged in fishery activities. Households engaged in weaving is 3, artisans is 2 and in other trade and business is 13. The total number of people receiving pension is 75. The total number of people engaged in self help group is 38.Jobcard holders is 85 and 1002 people do not possess any job card. Among the population 22 people have major health problems. The total literacy rate of the village : 416 peoples are literate and 660 illiterates. The total number of people having computer skill is 95.

The total number of population going to AWC/school/college is: AWC-120, School-385, College-84. On the other hand 179 are not enrolled in any educational institute.

Sanitization:

The villagers only use private toilets and the community toilet and open defecation is nil. Among them, Swachh Bharat Mission Toilet is 54. There is no government drainage system; however village is clean as there is enough open a space and paddy field that helps to tackle manmade water logging. The village has proper door to door waste collection with total number of 1087 households. In cooking method, 125 households use LPG while 102 households still use wood. Among them, the benefited households under PM Ujjwala Yojana are 130.

Major problems:

(a)  Communication and Road connectivity is not well maintained.

(b)   Un-employment has been reported.

Proposals :

There are some basic problems which are faced by the people of surveyed village and below mentioned points are some recommendation plans for tackling the issues under project UBA

1.   The roads and connectivity needs to be improved.

2.     Need to increase skill based training among youth under Skill India  Programme

ttackle unemployment.

3.    Financial assistance for development of local based small enterprises or   business.

Chapter 5
Village Name: Oujaribori

     Introduction

The name of the village where the survey was conducted is Oujaribori. The village is situated at 26.26114222° latitude and 92.30578718° longitude. The village falls under Bhurbandha block situated at Morigaon district of Assam, India. The total population of the village is 860. There are a total of 212 houses in the village.

Physical infrastructure
Transport
The distance of the village from the district headquarter is 4 km. The village is not fully connected with Pucca road. The mode of transport to the village is shared auto and it is not frequently available.
Educational institutes
The village has one (1) Primary school managed by the Government and one () Anganwadi Kendra.
Analysis of the report
(a) Population
The survey is conducted in the village called Oujaribori in Morigaon district of Assam. There are a total of 212 household. The total population of the village is 860. Out of this total population 456 is male and 404 is female. In terms of age group of the population, the age group 20-25 years account highest i.e. 112 persons and age group 80 years and above account the lowest i.e. 5. With regard to gender, the female age group of 20-25 years is highest with 60 person and age group 80 years and above is lowest with 0 people. For female, the age group .20-25 years is highest with 52 persons and age group 80 years and above is lowest with 5 persons.

(b) Literacy Rate
The total number of literate and illiterate person in the village is 529 and 293 respectively. Out of the total 529 literate person 285 is male and 244 is female. Out of the 293 illiterate person 162 is male and 131 is female. With regard to male literate person the school level education is highest which is 181 persons, secondly college level education 64 persons and Anganwadi center (AWC) level education that is 40 persons. In relation to female illiterate, school level education is attained by 118 persons, college level education by 88 persons and Anganwadi center (AWC) level education by 38 persons.

In terms of age group for male literate, For Anganwadi center (AWC) level education age group 0-5 years account highest with 11 persons. For school level education age group 10-15 years account highest with total of 39 persons. For college level education age group 10-15 years account highest with total of 35 persons. In terms of age group for female literate, For Anganwadi center (AWC) level education age group 30-35 years account highest with total of 17 persons For school level education the age group 10-15 years account the highest with total of 31 person For college level education the age group 20-25 years account highest with total of 39 persons.

In terms of age group for male and female illiterate, age group of 40-45 years male account highest with the total of 36 persons and age group of 35-40 years of female account highest with the total of 24 persons. The age group of 0-5 and 75-80 years male is the lowest illiterate the total of 6 persons each. The age group of 80 years and above account the lowest female illiterate with the total of only 3 persons. There is no illiterate male for the age between 5-25 years male. There is also no illiterate female for the age between 5-25 years and age group 70-75 years.

(c) Livestock

There is a total of 609 livestock in the village. Out of this 609 livestock, 344 are cows, 149 goat, 12 buffalo and 104 are ducks.

(d) Economic status

43 household in the village are above poverty line and 48 household are below poverty line.

(e) Availing Government schemes

962 households in the village are availing gas for cooking purpose, 8 households are availing housing schemes, 12 households are availing Health card schemes, 55 household are availing sanitation schemes and 2 households are availing Kishan credit provided by the government.

(f) Land

There is a total of 394.4 acres land in the village. Out of this, 137.2 acres is cultivable land, 189.2 acres is uncultivable land, 30 acres of land has irrigation facilities and 38 acres has no irrigation facilities.

Major problems
1) Road connectivity from Manipur No.2 main road to village area is in poor condition.

2) A few household of the village needs electrification.

3) Water supply facilities are found to be poor in some house.

Proposal
a) As the village road is not pucca, it becomes muddy during rainy season. So, pucca road for the village is proposed hereby. b) One sub-centre for better health service for the village is needed.

c) Public transport facility for the villagers is necessary for the convenience of travel from village to district headquarter and vice versa and to different places as well.

Village Name : Borigaon

 

                    Introduction

Borigaon village falls under the Dandua gram panchayat, Bhurbhandha block of Morigaon district of Assam. The total population of the village is 1222 from which 567 are male and 655 are female. Population can be categorized against different age group and gender as follows -

Category wise, all of them fall under General category. The types of households are mostly katcha, 70 households while 123 semi-pacca and 166 households are pacca. Under PM Awas Yojana the total number of benefited households is 44. The poverty status of the population is that, while 130 households have APL card, the total number of BPL card holder is and 92 people did not have either.

In terms of occupation, the total number of salaried government employee is 123 and total salaried employee in private sector is 234 The total number of households having their own farming land is 432 There is total 123 skilled wage worker and 310 unskilled wage workers. The total number of households engaged in animal husbandry is 236, 06 fisheries and poultry is 388. The total number of people engaged in self help group is 86. Job card holders are 188. Among the population 90 people have major health problem.

The total literacy rate of the population of the village is 1149 literate and 73 illiterates. The total number of people who know to operate computers is 132.

Different Programmes under UNNAT BHARAT ABHIYAN

1) Induction Programme at Borigaon Village

 Date: 20-9-2021

 Venue: Borigaon LP School

It was a program organised by IQAC, Morigaon College. Aim of the program was to create awareness about the community level relationship between college and adopted village among the villagers of Borigaon. The meeting was presided over by the principal of the Morigaon College. Dr. Ranjit Kumar Kalita, IQAC Coordinator of the college, Dr. Hahiram Lahkar, Dr.Nilamoni Phukon, Paragjyoti Mahanta, Augustin Terang, Dr. Hemanga Sharma and Utpal Mech visited to the school representing the teaching staff of the college.

2) Induction Programme: Solmari Mikirgaon

Date: 09-11-2021 

Venue: Solmari Mikirgaon Dekachang

It is an induction program on village adoption in community level by Morigaon College. Prof. N I Ali Ahmed and Dr. Budhen Kumar Saikia discussed the possibilities of adopting of village as resource person. The meeting was presided over by Dr.Ranjit Kumar Kalita, IQAC Coordinator of the college.

3)  Survey on Jaal Jeevan Mission, Har Ghar Jaal

Under the scheme in Morigaon District of Assam, from Morigaon College specially the college has surveyed the adopted villages of the College. The adopted villages are Solmari, Ojaribori, Borigaon, Vairobguri and Mayanguri. Additionally, the students of the college also surveyed the villages of Baghara, Chotagarjan, Manipur, Boligaon, Doloichuba, Atigaon, Digholbori, Bihubori, Dandua, Dholpara, Ujonichuba, Satra, Haldhbari, Gerakhua, Charaibahi, Niz Charaibahi, Habi Baranga Bari, Bhuragaon, Khatarbori, Auguri and Kapur Pura Bori. Among the five adopted villages of the college, data has been collected from only Solmari village due to less number of students and non-availability of student from those villages.

4) National Pollution Control Day

Venue: Mayanguri

Date: 03-12-2021

The national pollution control day was observed by the department of Botany on 3rd Dec 2021 in collaboration with IQAC- Morigaon College due to some unavoidable circumstances on 2nd Dec. It was a black day of India on which in the year 1984 the Bhopal Gas Tragedy took place due to the leakage of Methyl Isocyanides gas from Union Carbide plant. In the memory of the lost lives the nation take to observe the program to commemorate them. As a part of the programme, Mayanguri, an adopted village of Morigaon College was taken in consideration and the awareness programme was held among the villagers and the distribution of leaftlet had been done to aware about the soil, water, air and noise pollution. Our primary discussion with the people of the village was to avoid using plastic and to stay away from the use of it as far as possible. We have visited door to door of the villages and the following people have taken part in the programme.

5) Popular Talk on Upliftment of Future Generation

Venue: Solmari Mikir Gaon at 11th February&

 at Oujari (Manipur) in 22th February

Two popular talks were held in 11th February at Solmari High School and in 22th February at Bishnurabha Secondary School at Manipur near adopted village Oujari (Manipur) respectively. The Programs was organized by extension activity cell of Morigaon. In the first talk Dr. Nilamoni Phukon, A Q Osmani, Dr. Kalyan Kumar Das, Jugal Ch Nath presented their valuable lectures on Upliftment of Future Generation. In the later program Dr. Chandan Sharma, Dr. Jaysree Nath acted as resourse person at Bishnurabha High School. Dr. Hahiram Lahkar, Utpal Mech and Augustin Terang took initiative on behalf of extension activity and Unnat Bharat Abhiyan respectively.

6) Women’s Day Celebration

Venue: Borigaon L P School

 Date: 8 March, 2022

At Borigaon L P School of Borigaon, an adopted village by Morigaon College, an awareness program was held by Morigaon Mahavidyalay Mahila Mancha. The organisation aimed the women of the village taking a theme on Health and Nutrition of Women and Child.

7) Household Surveys

Venue: All Adopted Villages of Morigaon College

Date: First week of April, 2022.

The Students from Four department and NSS unit students were engaged in the household surveys to collect relevant data and also do visual surveys based on the infrastructure of the village. Villagers were very happy once they were aware about Unnat Bharat Abhiyan through hamlet meeting and social mobilization. From Morigaon College 150 students of NSS Unit, Department of Education, Political Science, Geography and Anthropology went to Solmari Mikir Gaon and conducted house hold survey in the first week of April, 2022.

8) Cutting and Tailoring Workshop

Venue: Morigaon College Indoor Stadium

The First Phase of the cutting and tailoring workshop was carried out in Morigaon College campus from22-06-2023 until 30-11-2023. The training session was carried out on a daily basis from 10AM to 1 PM. Women became familiar with latest tailoring machines as well as learned new market appealing cloth designing techniques. This programme has enhanced problem solving knitting, cutting skill of the women. Women are now being able to prepare various styles of dresses such as frocks, blouse etc. Women with increased confidence have now been starting to prepare their own dresses at home. Trainees a­re engaging themselves at local tailoring shops and earning income.

9) PLANTATION AND CLEANLINESS DRIVE

Venue: Banpara, Borigaon

On March 6, 2023, Department of Commerce, Morigaon College organised a very auspicious tree plantation and cleanliness programme on adopted village of Morigaon college “Banpara, Borigaon”, to create an awareness regarding climate change and its adverse effect on us. The all faculty and students from b.com 2nd, 4th and 6th semester of Department of Commerce are reached “Banpara” at 11.30 am and started the programme at 11.40 am with a valuable speech by Dr. Pranjeet Das, The Head of the Department of Commerce, Morigaon College, regarding some benefits to clean our surroundings and how planting trees helps to make the surroundings greener and regulate the temperature to absorb all the carbon dioxide from the air. Following that, all the students clean the particular area of village selected by the village coordinator. After completing cleanliness drive at 1.00 pm, all faculties, along with students agreed to plant trees a range of 50 various plants. The various types of trees like neem, peepal, mango tree, aloe vera, coconut tree, banana tree, date palm, amla tree, guava tree and tamarind tree are there.

10.  Awarness  Programme  Against Child Marriage

Venue: Solmari Gaon Lakhi Mandir

The program is a part of extension activity of the department of Histoty, Morigaon College. The program was chaired by Mr. Dipak Kalita, Assistant professor and HOD of Department of History. The Resource person of the program was Bamdana Devi, district programme coordinator of Assam Mahila Samata Samiti (Under SSA) and DLSA Volunteer. Total no of 106 participants attend in the meeting including all the teachers and students of the History department. The students of the department also performed a skit to create awareness among the people of the village.

11.  Awarness Programme on Social Issue

Venue: Oujaribori LP School, Manipur Gaon (Located at the Adopted village of   Morigoan college)

Date: 11/03/2023

The program is a part of extension activity of the department of Education, Morigaon College. With an aim of reaching out to the community to render knowledge and experience with the people of the community, the program was planned and conducted by the Department of Education. The program was chaired by Dr. Kalyan Das, Assistant professor and HOD of Department of Education. The Resource person of the program was Mr. Ajijur Rahman, Assistant professor, Department of  English, Morigaon college. Mr. Rahman delivered an important point which is related to the main topic. He, not only delivered the topic but actively interact with the participants in which majority of the participants were Women.  There were around 100 participants of the program.  The faculties of the Department of Education have attended the program. The students of 2nd, 4th and 6th semester were also a part of the activity. Teachers of Oujaribori LP School and villagers were also present in the said program.  A vote of thanks was delivered before concluding the program thanking all the participants and especially mentioning the Resource person and Teachers of the school for cooperating in arranging the program.

12.  Extension activity by Department of Mathematics

Venue: Oujaribori L. P. School, Morigaon

Date: 11 March, 2023

The Department of Mathematics, Morigaon College conducted an extension activity on 11 March, 2023 at Oujaribori L. P. School, Morigaon on the topic ‘Mathematics phobia and its remedy in primary education’. The main aim of this programme was to spread awareness on the importance of mathematics education in the early stage of school life and the role of parents in that matter. Mr. Prafulla Kumar Bora, Assistant Professor of Department of Mathematics, Morigaon College delivered the keynote speech on the aforesaid subject focusing on the parents of the students present in the programme. Brajen Das, retired teacher, Sachin Das, president of SMC and Tansen Timung, Head teacher of the school also delivered valuable lectures regarding the matter. Almost 120 people were present in the programme including the parents of the students, teachers and students from Department of Mathematics, Morigaon College. At the end of the programme feedbacks from the parents were taken and they appreciated the initiative taken by the department.
